Our official webpage is at www.blackapril.com Black April is an Asian American alternative rock band established in August 2002, in Orange County, California. John Fredrickson and Tyler Phan have had faced some tough time searching for a Vietnamese bass player and a vocalist/guitar player who has the taste for rock music. Both John and Tyler exhausted their resources for more than one year. When Michael Tran arrived to California from Kansas with his Fender guitar....well, he was pursuaded and a few weeks later he picked up the bass. The search was completed. Later Jesse Dang joined us in late March 2003. Black April derived some influences from their heritage, incorporating different elements of jazz, blues, rock, metal, reggage, ska, and traditional Vietnamese music as well as Latin music. We share a Vietnamese heritage although we are quite American. We are not a political group. Our name was chosen to honor the sacrifices our parents and the heroes who had fought and lost their lives to ensure our chance at freedom. On April 30th, 1975 the government of the Republic of Vietnamese surrendered to the Communist Regime of North Vietnam after almost 20 years of war. This dark time in hisotry spawned a mass exodus...and is known to the refugees of South Vietnam as "Thang Tu Den", means Black April.
